“There will always be a piece of my heart in Starkville. Thank you, Lord, for allowing me to be a Mississippi State Bulldog!”

For Ainsley Bridges Betcher, Mississippi State University was never simply a place to earn a degree. It was home.

“I grew up with a deep connection and love for Mississippi State,” said Betcher, a 2023 biological sciences graduate. “It has always felt like home to me, and I knew it was where I wanted to continue my education. Choosing Mississippi State felt like continuing a family tradition while also creating my own experience and memories there.”

During her time at MSU, Betcher immersed herself in campus life through Zeta Tau Alpha and Dresses of Hope, a student organization that provides prom dresses to girls who otherwise may not be able to afford them. Both organizations gave her opportunities to serve others while building relationships that became an important part of her college experience.

“These experiences taught me the importance of giving back and serving others, while also allowing me to meet people and build relationships that made my college experience so special,” she said. “Most importantly, my time at Zeta gave me lifelong friendships and some of my favorite memories from college.”

One of those memories came during her senior year, when she participated in Zeta Tau Alpha recruitment. What might have once been a familiar part of college life suddenly took on a different meaning.

“It was the first of the ‘lasts’ of senior year and really put into perspective that, in just a year, I would no longer be within walking distance of all my best friends,” Betcher said. “That experience reminded me how truly lucky I was and encouraged me to slow down and cherish my senior year and the moments I got to share with the people who had shaped my college experience.”

Her time in the College of Arts & Sciences also helped shape the career she would eventually pursue. Two courses in particular influenced her path: Medical Ethics and a research experience focused on cerebellar brain folding.

Medical Ethics taught Betcher to consider multiple perspectives and carefully evaluate ethical decisions involved in patient care, an approach she said she still uses in her nursing career.

Her research experience sparked another important connection. Working on cerebellar brain folding developed her interest in early human development, which eventually led her to explore the IVF process and pursue a career in fertility care.

“I’m grateful that these classes gave me experiences that have continued to influence both my career and the way I care for my patients,” she said.

After graduating from MSU, Betcher began working as a medical assistant at Positive Steps Fertility. She later completed the Accelerated Nursing Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and returned to Ridgeland where she lives and works at Positive Steps Fertility as a registered nurse since January 2025.

“After graduating nursing school, I was offered an RN position at Positive Steps Fertility,” she said. “I have been working there as a registered nurse since January of 2025 and am so grateful to have been able to continue my career with such a great team.”

One of her proudest professional accomplishments so far was passing the NCLEX, the national licensing examination for registered nurses. For Betcher, the milestone represented more than simply completing another requirement.

“After all of the time, hard work, and dedication I had put into my education, passing the NCLEX felt like the moment when everything paid off,” she said. “It was an exciting milestone and the beginning of my career as a registered nurse.”

She credits her biological sciences degree with preparing her for the accelerated nursing program and the demands of her career. Her time in the College of Arts & Sciences taught her how to manage a challenging workload, stay organized and remain dedicated when things became difficult—skills that served her well when she completed the UMMC program in just one year.

“Earning my bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at MSU allowed me to complete the accelerated BSN program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, which I completed in one year,” Betcher said. “My time in CAS taught me how to manage a challenging workload while staying organized as well as how to remain dedicated even when things were difficult. Those skills were extremely helpful during nursing school and continue to help me in my career as a nurse.”

Even while building a career in the Jackson area, Betcher has maintained her connection to Mississippi State. She spends her free time with family and friends and follows Mississippi State athletics, one of the many ways she stays connected to the university.

“While going back to Starkville doesn’t feel exactly the same as it did when I was a student, it still feels like home,” she said.

For current students, Betcher encourages them to embrace the opportunities that come with college rather than simply moving through them.

“You truly get out of your college experience what you put into it,” she said. “If you want to make the most of your time at Mississippi State, put yourself out there, get involved and take advantage of every opportunity to meet new people and make memories. College goes by so quickly, so don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, enjoy the experience and don’t take a single second for granted.”

Looking back, Betcher sees her Mississippi State experience as transformative. She arrived as a shy 18-year-old unsure of what college would bring and left with greater confidence, lifelong friendships, a strong education and a career path shaped in part by the experiences she had in the College of Arts & Sciences.

“I feel like my experience at Mississippi State changed my life in every way,” she said. “I came into college as a shy 18-year-old who wasn’t sure what to expect and I left with more confidence, lifelong friendships, a great education and countless experiences that shaped the person I am today.”

“MSU pushed me outside my comfort zone, helped me achieve the career I have today and gave me some of the most meaningful memories of my life. I am forever grateful for the impact MSU has had on me and for the people and opportunities it brought into my life.”
