Students - [ Scholarships ]

The College of Arts & Sciences offers a number of scholarships to outstanding and deserving students. A criterion for each scholarship is listed below. Students should select the scholarship(s) that they wish to apply for and complete the attached application. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester to receive scholarships. The deadline for submitting applications is March 1..

The Clinton E. Wallace Student Excellence Fund
Candidates must be a full-time student, either undergraduate or graduate, at MSU while enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences. Financial assistance will be awarded competitively to candidates who have demonstrated financial need; been employed either on campus or off while enrolled and taking courses; demonstrated an interest in professional development by attending conferences, presenting papers, conducting research, etc.; and maintained a GPA of 2.0 to 3.0.

Lonnie S. Dyess, Sr. and Ida Mae Dyess Memorial Scholarship
Candidates must be a full-time student in the College of Arts & Sciences, a Pre-Medicine Major and a resident of Mississippi. The recipient will be a Junior or Senior at MSU and must have a minimum GPA of 3.5. The student's need will be considered, but shall not be the overriding factor in the selection of the recipient.

H. Dean Andrews Endowed Scholarship
Candidates for this scholarship must be full-time Arts & Sciences students interested in pre-medicine or pre-nursing, have achieved academic excellence, have demonstrated financial need, be of good moral character, and have shown leadership ability. Special consideration will be given to residents of Warren County, Mississippi. This scholarship is awarded for one year. Awardees are eligible for renewal of the scholarship but must compete with the new pool of applicants.

Robert B. Boykin Scholarship
Candidates must be a full-time freshman major in any Arts & Sciences department, have demonstrated financial need, have a minimum composite ACT score of 25, a high school GPA of at least 3.0, have demonstrated a record of good citizenship, community service, extra-curricular activities and/or outstanding achievement in Boy Scouting or Girl Scouting.

Chickasaw County Students' Scholarship
Candidates must be full-time students at MSU, have at least a 3.0 GPA, be of good moral character with demonstrated leadership and financial need, and be residents of Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

The John Elliott Family Endowed Scholarship
Candidates must be full-time undergraduate students majoring in any Arts & Sciences discipline, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be of good character with demonstrated leadership, willing to work hard and have a demonstrated financial need.

Drs. Karen and William Hulett Endowed Scholarship for Science Majors
Candidates must be at least sophomore full-time students majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the science courses, and must be enrolled in at least eight semester hours of science courses at the time of application

Kerry D. Kimbrough Memorial Scholarship
Candidates must be juniors or seniors majoring in any Arts & Sciences disciplines, have demonstrated financial need, be of good moral character, and have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Awardees must be residents of Mississippi.

Hugh and Pequita Latimer Endowed Fund for Excellence
This fund may be used to promote excellence in the College of Arts & Sciences. As such, it may be used to support various supplemental activities that complement, enhance, or expand the mission of the College of Arts & Sciences including the awarding of scholarships.

George and Gale Kappler Endowed Scholarship
Candidate must be a full-time student enrolled in one of the major fields of study offered in the College of Arts & Sciences, have achieved a score of 25 or higher on the ACT (or equivalent on the SAT) and a high-school GPA not lower than 3.0.

Jerry D. Dickerson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Candidates must be a full-time student majoring in any Arts & Sciences discipline, have completed 60 semester credit hours at a Mississippi community college with a cumulative GPA of 3.5, be of good moral character with demonstrated leadership ability and traits of good citizenship.

Fred Corley Endowed Scholarship
Candidates must be a full-time freshman enrolled in one of the major fields of study offered in the College of Arts & Sciences at MSU; have demonstrated need; have achieved a score of 25 or higher on the ACT (or equivalent on the SAT); and, earned a high-school GPA not lower than 3.0.

Lucille B. Thomas Scholarship Fund
Candidates must be enrolled full-time in the College of Arts & Sciences at MSU and be in good academic standing with minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates should have leadership ability and have demonstrated financial need. It is preferred that each candidate's permanent residence be in one of the following counties in the state of Mississippi (Clarke, Kemper, Lauderdale, Neshoba or Newton). If no candidates are from these counties, then preference shall be given to students from counties south of State Highway 82 and east of Interstate 55. In addition, preference shall be given to students enrolled in either Biological Sciences or Chemistry, or both.

Hunter Henry Scholarship
Candidates must be a full-time, entering freshman at MSU, majoring in Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics, have a minimum composite score of 26 on the ACT, display academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities, and demonstrate financial need. Awardees must be a Mississippi resident.

Betty and Ralph Alewine Endowed Merit Scholarship
Candidates must be a full-time, entering freshman in the College of Arts & Sciences at MSU, majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geosciences, or Physics & Astronomy, have demonstrated an excellent record of high school academic achievement, with a minimum GPA of a 3.5, and have a strong scientific interest and capability. Awardees must have graduated from a high school in Mississippi and be a U.S. citizen.
